Weather Book

Craft a homemade book for your mini meteorologist.

  • PRINT
  • EMAIL

What you need:
• old magazines
• scissors
• marker
• cardboard or posterboard
• glue
• clear contact paper
• X-acto knife
• yarn

What to do:
1. With your toddler (depending on her attention span!), look through magazines for photos that show different kinds of weather. Can you find pictures of a sunny day? A cloudy one? How about rain or snow?

2. Cut out pictures of different kinds of weather and glue them onto pieces of cardboard or posterboard. Write the kind of weather shown underneath each picture, and cover the pictures with clear contact paper.

3. Use an X-acto knife to cut holes in the cardboard, and string yarn through the holes to bind the pages together.

4. Read the book with your child and talk about different kinds of weather. What do people wear when it rains? When it snows? On a sunny day?

5. Invite your toddler to look out the window and see what the sky looks like. Can she find a picture in the book that matches?

Learning benefits:
• supports vocabulary development
• introduces different kinds of weather
• encourages observation
