Family Field Day
Get fit and promote cooperation with these family activities.
What you need:
• Hula hoops
• Traffic cones or large cardboard boxes
• Tricycles
• Chalk
What to do:
1. Jumping through hoops: Use hula hoops to create a jumping game. Place the hoops in a straight line on the ground and invite your child to jump or hop through each hoop. You can also place the hoops in a zigzag formation for even more challenging fun. Encourage jumping forward, sideways, or even backwards.
2. Obstacle course: Obstacle courses are challenging and help children to build a variety of gross-motor skills, including balance, spatial awareness, tumbling, agility, and strength. Set up cones (or boxes) for walking around and create a tunnel out of boxes to crawl through. Try setting up the obstacle course near a swing set or slide so that the children can finish by climbing up the ladder and sliding down the slide.
3. Tricycle track: Expand your original course by spreading out the cones or boxes to make the course tricycle friendly. Your child can make stop signs or draw them on the ground with colored chalk. Line the trikes up at the start and let each child take a turn making her way through the course.
