Halloween Colors
Enjoy all the colors of Halloween with this collage activity.

What you need:
• Halloween Colors, by Carla Dijs (optional)
• paper
• glue
• child-safe scissors
• old newspapers, magazines, catalogs, and ad circulars
• crayons (optional)
Reading tips:
1. Each turn-the-flap page in Halloween Colors introduces a different color along with a clever rhyme.
2. As you read the book with your child, invite him to identify the color on each page before reading the text.
3. While reading the text itself, point out the rhyming words. ("Face sounds like chase.")
To extend the reading:
1. Make a color collage. Decide on a color for the collage together.
2. With your child, go through old newspapers and magazines to find as many pictures with that color as you can (e.g., red apple, red stop sign, red ball).
3. Your child may also want to draw some objects to add to the collage.
4. For an extra challenge, your child can choose a theme (like Halloween!) for his collage.
Learning Benefits:
• provides practice with color names
• emphasizes rhyming words
• supports creativity
