Internet Field Trip: Celebrating Children’s Book Week Online

Since 1919, National Children's Book Week has been a time to discover the best of children's literature and to encourage the joys of reading. This year you can celebrate this time-honored event on the Web! From reading and writing book reviews to learning how books are made, you'll be sure to find everything you need to join in the festivities.

Begin your explorations at Carol Hurst's Children's Literature Site where you'll find a rich collection of children's book reviews. While you're there, check out the featured books section. This area changes on a regular basis, and offers a page for each book with a review, a list of things to notice and talk about, activities, and links to other related resources.

Then go to Bookwink for video booktalks that will get kids excited about reading. There are also read-alike lists organized by subject, grade, level, author and title.

For teen reviews on subjects ranging from adventure stories to mysteries, explore the Internet Public Library's TeenSpace. The Internet Public Library’s KidSpace has a great collection of reading resources. Their Story Hour has stories to share with students.
