Dr. Brazelton's New Television Show
America's foremost pediatrician, Dr. T. Berry Brazelton, will be hosting a new show on contemporary parenting debut ing in March, 2000, on the Fox Family Channel. Child Care READS! Kicks Off
Child Care READS!, a national communications campaign to raise awareness of the importance of literacy activities in child care settings, will disseminate and give visibility to many new and existing programs, including the American Library Association and International Reading Association. This new campaign, housed and coordinated at the Child Care Action Campaign, will point child care providers toward resources they can use to implement activities that promote language, literacy development, and the love of learning. Car Seats: use Them Right!
Properly installed car seats can reduce the risk of fatalities in motor vehicle collisions by 69% for infants and 49% for toddlers, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Studies show, however, that more than half of car seats are used or installed incorrectly.
Nissan North America has published The What to Expect Guide to Car Seat Safety. This booklet contains tips on choosing the right car seat, advice for dealing with "car seat resistance" from young children, and information on pregnant women and seat belts.The guide, available in English and Spanish, is free.
