THORNRIDGE BIODIESEL TEAM

This team came to the Lexus Eco Challenge prepared to win! Here’s a snapshot of their accomplishments:
- Showcased the various uses of biodiesel.
- Created a biodiesel processor which converts used vegetable oil into biodiesel, a renewable resource…all with the intent of saving energy and reducing their carbon footprint!
- Partnered with the Illinois Department of Transportation and Utah Biodiesel as they tested their biodiesel in a car and implemented their action plan.
- Added to this, the team expanded their promotion of green technology by adding solar panels to power part of their processor.
The team spread the word about their project and passion for the environment through school-wide and community-wide outreach including local television/newspaper outlets, online media, and at other educational institutions.

RIVER RUNNERS TEAM

This team met the challenge and went beyond! Here’s what they accomplished:
- Team members created a working model wetland in the classroom to teach others about endangered riparian and wetland sites throughout the United States.
- Created M.E.E.K., a nonprofit organization (Montana Environmental Education for Kids) and presented the goals of the group to more than fifty of Montana’s environmental leaders at the Montana Department of Environmental Quality Wetland Council Meeting.
- Designed an outdoor classroom to further promote wetland education.
The team initiated a letter writing campaign and conferred with multiple leaders in their community. Governor Schweitzer even recognized their efforts. Local television and newspapers picked up the story as well and got the word out!
