New Face for the $10 Bill?

We honor George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and several other important Americans by putting their pictures on our money. Now, James McKnight of Atlanta, Georgia, thinks it's time to put a new face on one of our bills. He is asking the U.S. government to put the face of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on our ten-dollar bill.

Dr. King fought for equal rights for African-Americans. On January 16, we have a holiday to celebrate his birthday. McKnight said that putting Dr. King on the ten-dollar bill is another good way to honor him.

Right now, Alexander Hamilton, who helped create our Constitution, is on the ten-dollar bill. Congress will decide whether or not to change the bill.

Remembering Dr. King
Throughout this weekend and all next week, Americans will take time to honor the legacy of one man: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The leader of the civil rights movement is honored every year on his birthday, January 15. This year, he would have been 78 years old.
