3 Ways to Bring Math Into Playtime
Believe it or not, much of children's natural play revolves around mathematical concepts! Try the following strategies to encourage math play.
- Toys. Provide your child with playthings with mathematical possibilities, such as blocks or nesting toys.
- Movement. Encourage your child to use his own body by counting appendages. Enhance spatial awareness by pretending to be in a box or guessing whether you can fit through a tunnel.
- The world around you. Help your child notice shapes in her current environment, from boxes at the grocery store to round stones on a path. Make a game of pointing them out.
