Best Practices: Nurturing Talent
In our February issue, Scholastic Administr@tor profiled the executive team behind Microsoft's School of the Future in Philadelphia. Since then, more than a dozen technology vendors from Adobe to Xerox have donated to the project, and by all official projections there will be kids in the hall this month. Nearly 1,500 Philadelphia students applied for 170 ninth-grade openings in the 750-student school. Of those selected for the 2006 entering class, 90% are students living below the poverty level, and 98.8% are classified as minority-group members.
The Microsoft team has also come through with its promise to share best practices. The Competency Wheel (right), is designed to help educators and administrators develop professional skills and proficiencies and to enable educational organizations to find the right candidates to fill key jobs.
