Anne Isaac's Visit Kit

Author Visit Kit

As a writer, mother, and curriculum specialist for over twenty years, Anne Isaacs knows how to engage children of all ages; and she brings a wealth of experience to her programs for all grade levels.  She can open up the world of books to your students, giving them an insider's view of writing and building their literacy skills at the same time.  Depending on you school's needs, Anne can speak to a class or assembly on a wide choice of topics. All of her presentations include lively, engaging activities that bring literature to life and promote students' confidence, interest and ability to write.

In ‘Tombs and Trash Heaps', based on Anne's research for a forthcoming Scholastic book, students learn to write their names in hieroglyphics and taste breakfast cereals eaten by the Pharaohs. Anne uses Swamp Angel to teach students how to write a tall tale or to explore the connections between American humor and history; and she introduces the holocaust using selections from Torn Thread.  A popular talk for large audiences is ‘From Idea to Book', in which she draws upon images, artifacts, and personal anecdotes to explain the stages in makin g a book.  These are only a few examples; for more information, or to read teachers' comments about Anne's visits, go to www.AnneIsaacs.com.

    Pancakes for Supper

    Pancakes for Supper

by Anne Isaacs and Mark Teague

When her family's wagon hits a bump, golden-haired Toby Littlewood is hurled into the sky and lands deep in the snowy forest. There she meets a prickly porcupine, an enormous bear, and a hungry cougar, among other fearsome creatures. Cleverly, she talks each one out of eating her by offering up her fancy clothes. In the end, in a competition to be the grandest beast, the vain animals chase each other around and around a maple tree, where they turn into maple syrup! Isaacs's clever, rollicking text and Teague's animated animals in Toby's clothing are sure to delight the youngest reader.
