Author Visit Kit

By Jeanne Betancourt

Jeanne Betancourt has written over sixty novels for children and young adults, including Ten True Animal Rescue Stories, My Name is Brain Brian, and the book series Pony Pals and Cheer USA. Her novels have been honored by many Children's Choice Awards. She is also an award winning script writer.

The main character in My Name is Brain Brian is dyslexic. So is Anna - one of the three main characters in the Pony Pals series. (Jeanne and her daughter, Nicole, are also dyslexic.)

Jeanne enjoys working with classroom-sized groups of children who have read her work. She was a classroom teacher (junior and senior high school) for seventeen years before becoming a children's book author and screen writer. She welcomes the opportunity to meet with teachers and librarians in an informal setting or as a guest speaker.

Topics Jeanne might cover in a classroom include: The steps involved in writing a book from idea through the final product (with samples of these stages). The differences and similarities in writing a script and writing a novel. Jeanne often includes a discussion of different learning styles in her author's visit. She concludes her presentation/discussion with a ten-minute reading from one of her books.

Jeanne is an experienced teacher and a lively, engaging speaker.  For more information about her, please visit http://www.jeannebetancourt.com/
