By Elaine Greenstein

Elaine Greenstein began writing and illustrating children's books in 1992. Her background is diverse: it includes an MFA in sculpture, teaching at the college level, being a pastry chef, being an executive and lots of time around children. She has recently finished her 8th book, Dreaming: A Countdown to Sleep. Talking about how she makes her books and showing students and teachers what she does is one of her favorite things to do.

Elaine brings her stories, art, and all the steps she does to make a book with her presentations. She starts with where the idea comes from, discusses how the story forms, and how she plans the drawings. She even brings her etching press and demonstrates how she makes the final art. There's even a part about how the books are printed. Students are encouraged to participate in the presentation and ask questions.

Presentations may be modified to meet the school's needs. Writing and bookmaking workshops and residencies may be arranged.
