Dan Gutman Author Visit Kit

Author Visit Kit

By Dan Gutman

Dan Gutman limits his visits to schools in New Jersey and the Philadelphia area. For others, he offers a "virtual author visit" on DVD. For information, go to www.dangutman.com .

Dan uses SPORTS to get kids excited about reading and writing. His many books about baseball, basketball, soccer, hockey, bowling, golf, and figure skating draw both boys and girls into his presentations. There are six parts to Dan's school visits:

  1. He shows how his books are created from start to finish
  2. He show slides of research materials, rejection letters, cover designs, and pictures of himself as a child
  3. Question & Answer period
  4. Dan and a smaller group of students improvise a novel in twenty minutes, with the kids supplying the characters and plot
  5. Lunch with a group of 5–10 students
  6. Book-signing.

Dan's talk is delivered with honesty and down-to-earth humor. Students are inspired, not only to read and write, but also to overcome rejection, to be persistent, to take the initiative, and to pursue their dreams. Dan also supplies a teacher's guide, autographed bookmark, and a handout with tips for aspiring authors.

The Kid Who Ran for President

The Kid Who Ran for President

    by Dan Gutman

Judd Moon is just an average sixth grader, until his politically savvy best friend convinces him that he has what it takes to be president. Told in first-person narrative, this cleverly conceived satire will have readers laughing all the way to the Electoral College. The fact that they can't help but learn a thing or two about the election process is purely coincidental.
