Roberta Grobel Intrater is a photographer, journalist, graphic designer, art consultant, and award-winning author. At home with an audience of any age, she offers a variety of presentations:

1. All About Bookmaking-Slide Show/Discussion: [Grades 1 - 12 and adult audiences]
How do you become and author? How do you find a publisher? How are illustrated books produced? The author answers these questions and more as she explores the entire process of bookmaking, from inspiration to print. This slide show includes examples of her original manuscripts, drawings, photographs, layouts, and printer's proofs.

2. Awesome Art Activities Workshop [Grade 2 - 5]

Choose one of these delightful interactive bookmaking projects from the author's best-selling Scholastic Professional Book, Awesome Art Activities Around the Year:

a) Flip-Book Portraits: Following a discussion about portraiture (examples include mummy portraits, caricatures, traditional and contemporary works, and Two Eyes, A Nose and A Mouth, the author's book of photographic portraits), the children will draw portraits of eachother. They'll staple their drawings together to make their books, then cut the pages to separate the features. Flipping them will create lots of funny new faces.

b) Guess What? Nature Book: This little nature book is full of surprises. Each child will draw four natural objects, and then cut a small geometric shape out of four blank pages. They'll place a cut-out page in front of each drawing, exposing a small detail of the object, and staple the pages together. Looking at the detail, friends will have to guess what the object is before turning the page to see the entire drawing.

3. The Christmas Puppy — Reading & Discussion: [Grades 2-5] This best selling short novel about a boy who loses his mischievous puppy and finds her months later in the company of a lonely old man deals with issues of love, loss, hard choices, character and compassion. A reading and discussion of this book can take place any time of year, and is especially appropriate for the holiday season.

4. Teacher and Librarian Workshops: Choice of projects from the Scholastic Professional Book Awesome Art Activities Around the Year.
