Labeling People

It is possible that some students in class will refer to Native Americans as “Indians.” Tell the class that such labels are often a controversial topic even among the people belonging to the culture. Print the two labels on a blackboard. Ask the class to tell what they know about each label. If possible, invite a Native American person to visit your class to discuss the origin of each label and importance of being sensitive to such labels.
