Julia Gran's Visit Kit
Julia Gran is an award-winning illustrator. Her art appears internationally in books, advertising, and products. She is an adjunct college professor teaching illustration, color theory and design. Julia visits the NYC public schools through residencies to help children develop their creative process.
Her books have been adapted into a digital presentation that can be projected. Some pages include animation to enhance the visuals. The books are read aloud and followed up with examples of Julia's student artwork from various ages. The art of communication through the union of words and images will be the focus of discussion.
Julia's presentations have been described as "the equivalent of an improvisational comedy routine with spontaneous illustrations." She starts the ball rolling with a drawing then asks the audience a series of questions. Through free association the drawings follow wherever the students' imagination leads. Students are encouraged to create their own drawings along with Julia. This practice is a helpful tool to unblock the students' minds, so that they may tap into the creative process in a non-stressful, and playful way.
