Welcome to Setting the Stage with Geometry, a new math program designed to help students build basic skills for measuring 2D and 3D shapes. Developed by The Actuarial Foundation with Scholastic, this program seeks to provide activities to help students become successful in the classroom and in real-world situations outside of school.

Each of the three lessons below is accompanied by fun printable worksheets as well as extension worksheets and take-home activities.

Lesson Plans

Lesson 1: Perimeter and Area of 2D Shapes
In "Geometry Works! The Stage Takes Shape," guide your students' understanding of the formulas that measure the perimeter and area of these basic two-dimensional shapes: rectangles, circles, and triangles.

Lesson 2: Surface Area of 3D Shapes
In "That Should Cover It!" help your students understand formulas used to measure the surface area of these basic three-dimensional shapes: a rectangular prism, a cylinder, and a square pyramid.

Lesson 3: Volume of 3D Shapes
"Pack It Up! What Will Fit?" builds your students understanding of formulas used to measure the volume of these basic three-dimensional shapes: a rectangular prism, a cylinder, and a square pyramid.
