Hello and welcome to my classroom! My name is Kechia Williams, and I teach 6th grade language arts/reading at E.L. Wright middle school in Richland School District II in South Carolina. My school is located in the midst of an older suburban neighborhood. We enjoy a diverse student population that is near a military base. I have an ITEC classroom (Integrating Technology to Enrich Curriculum) which means I weave technology in my lessons to introduce or reinforce reading and writing skills. I have been teaching here for eight years, and I attended this school as a student myself. It is rewarding to actually work with some of my prior, favorite teachers.

I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of South Carolina in 1993. After graduating, I substitute taught, and that is when the teaching bug bit me. I then decided to attend Coker College in Hartsville, South Carolina and received my teaching credential in 1998. I also possess a Masters of Education from Cambridge College located in Boston, Massachusetts.

Children are definitely the future of the world. Being able to teach them is an honor and privilege with a variety of rewards and challenges. I am responsible as a teacher to provide them with the knowledge and tools needed to prepare them not just for the next grade level, but life. I believe a good teacher builds her students intellectually, mentally, and emotionally by teaching and modeling her subject content with enthusiasm and rigor. I have high expectations for myself and my students, I give 110% and I expect the same from them.

I am passionate about reading and writing! I share my personal reading and writing experiences with my students. I believe modeling is the most powerful way to affect a child’s learning. My students sense my passion for reading and writing, and they usually respond with enthusiasm. In order for students to be successful in school and life, they must be able to read and write effectively. I have the power to change the quality of students’ lives by teaching them reading and writing skills that they will need for academic and personal success.

My major goal for my students is for them to become self directed thinkers and productive problem solvers. I am married to Travis Williams, and I am also the proud mother of a toddler son named, Trevon. My hands are quite full with my family and students. I know how busy and hectic things can become during the school year with teaching expectations and family obligations. So I look forward to sharing my efficient and effective ideas and strategies with you. I am also excited to hear from you!
