Biography

Susan Shreve is the recipient of many prestigious awards including the John Simon Guggenheim award in Fiction. Ms. Shreve is the Founder of the MFA program in Creative Writing at George Mason University, and has studied under Peter Taylor. She has served as a Professor at George Washington University, Bennington College, Princeton University and Columbia University.

Shreve has written both adult and children’s fiction, publishing over twelve titles in both categories. She constructs her stories in both genres with confidence and creates characters that are strong and courageous inventors of their own lives. Her stories resonate issues of alienation, individualism, and resilience in young adults. Susan's work for young readers is humorous and poignant, with stories often depicting a character's coming of age under difficult circumstances. Her novels for Arthur L. Levine books include Ghost Cats, Jonah the Whale, as well as Blister, an ALA Notable Book and a Publishers Weekly Best Children’s Book. Her latest title is Kiss Me Tomorrow, which continues the story of Blister Reed.

For aspiring writers, Susan believes it is only necessary to have something to say and the desire to be heard.
