Remembering the Holocaust

The purpose of this unit is to bring real-life meaning to students concerning the victims of the Holocaust. Students will reflect upon the causes, effects, and modern day lessons to be learned from the Holocaust, and they will work to better understand the meaning of six million.

OBJECTIVE
Students will:

  1. Use brainstorming techniques
  2. Organize information
  3. Integrate and use information
  4. Read for literacy experience
  5. Participate in a literature circle
  6. Read a non-fiction book
  7. Learn about the Holocaust
  8. Complete KWL chart.
  9. Use problem-solving skills to determine a mathematical method of graphically representing the number six million.
  10. Conduct research to find an appropriate solution to their mathematical question.
  11. Create a graphic presentation to illustrate the results of their research.

CULMINATING ACTIVITY

Students will create a time line showing some of the contributing events that occurred before, during the Holocaust, and events that happened afterward as a result of the Holocaust. The time line will feature photos, maps, and statistics of the Holocaust.
