Get Ready for Work!

Several of my former students work at McDonald's. Since there is a McDonald's just one block from our school, our students spend a lot of time there. I wanted to start preparing them for the world of part-time work by learning how to research companies, complete a job application, work with money and calculate different types of payment for work.

OBJECTIVE
Students will:

  1. Complete a job application form correctly and legibly.
  2. Practice adding up cost of items ordered, receiving money and giving back correct change.
  3. Understand the benefits of different types of payment that workers receive and be able to calculate different methods of payment.

CULMINATING ACTIVITY

Each student researches a company they would like to work for and writes an essay explaining the reasons (good salary, benefits, treat employees well, etc.) they want to work for the company they selected. The essay should include a section on the type of payment they prefer to earn and why.
