Taking the Jitters out of Testing

By Bryna Watkins and Valeta Pafford

There are things you can do to get students ready for the test taking experience, and strategies you can teach that will make students more successful on any test. We want to share what we have learned and thank all the teachers from the past who have shared with us. This is a yearlong process because we establish a testing procedure with the very first test students take and we build comfort and confidence from there. Don't despair if you didn't do this. There are also plenty of ideas that you can use right now.

OBJECTIVE

Students Will:

  1. Show an improvement in confidence and proficiency as test takers.
  2. Demonstrate an increased use of test-taking strategies.
  3. Gain a sense of how much can be completed in a fixed time period.
