Toys that light up, make music, or otherwise create noise can teach your baby important things about cause and effect — such as when a button has to be pressed for the ABC song to be played, or how manipulating the red button makes it light up. The lights and songs on some toys help a baby strengthen his eyesight as he tracks lights.
