Discuss a Character's Motives

Introduce the concept of motive when you're reading books with your child. Ask your child why he thinks the main character acted a certain way. What was influencing him? What did he gain, or what misfortune did he avoid through his actions? Carry these discussions over to movies you watch together and see the similarities between the stories presented in books and film.
