Food for Thought for Your Emerging Writer

When it’s time to forage through the fridge and peruse the pantry for needed supplies, ask your child to help write your grocery list. Remember to encourage every attempt and keep the focus on fun, not perfection. And don’t worry about accuracy at this age. Research shows that children who use “invented” or phonetic spelling become better spellers later on than those who are constantly corrected.
