Ready, Set, Soar!

Children find the notion of flying fascinating. Consider a toy that brings that dream to life. A great intro is the Pump Rocket, available from a number of manufacturers. These air-powered rockets require nothing more than some stomping power. A long, vinyl air hose connects to the rocket pad and the rocket, which is made of foam. With a good stomp, your child can push the rocket several dozen feet in the air. Take the time to explain why the rocket has fins (they make the rocket stay straight). For a more complex demonstration, graduate onto the granddaddy of rockets kits with Estes (these kits require adult participation).
