Sentence Fluency: Crafting Well-Built Sentences

  • Grades: 1–2, 3–5, 6–8

This passage is excerpted from Daily Trait Warm-Ups by Ruth Culham.

Revise this example:

Exercise is good for you. Exercise gives you energy. Exercise is a way to work off stress. Exercise can make your body stronger. Everyone should exercise.

Craft well-built sentences to create a paragraph that flows.

Think About:

  • Do my sentences begin in different ways?
  • Are my sentences different lengths?
  • Are my sentences built with sturdy construction?
  • Have I used transitions (but, and, so) to connect parts of sentences?
